Center for Entrepreneurship Development

About the Center:

 

Center for Entrepreneurship Development (CED) at FORE School of Management was launched with a Seminar on ‘Charms of being an Entrepreneur in the Challenging Times’ February 26, 2010. Mr. N. K. Maini (Executive Director of SIDBI) was the Chief Guest and Mr. H.K. Mittal (Director, DST) was the keynote speaker.

 

The Center for Entrepreneurship Development (CED), FORE aims to promote Entrepreneurship amongst the management students by creating a conducive ecosystem for the students to develop their creative ideas into brilliant business plans such that they are motivated to come up with their own Start-ups.

 

Research Themes & Goals of the Center:

 

The center carries out a calendar full of activities related to entrepreneurship round the year to inculcate the spirt of entrepreneurship. These activities for the students foster creativity & innovation and help them to develop an entrepreneurial mindset.

 

Event Calendar:

Activities for Students:

  1. Generally, the first activity of the center is a ‘half day seminar on Entrepreneurial journey of successful entrepreneurs’, which is organized for the 1st t year MBA students in July/ August. This seminar is primarily an awareness building exercise and also helps the students to appreciate the spirit of Entrepreneurship.

 

  1. The next CED activity in the year is the ‘four half day workshops on Idea Generation; Opportunity Evaluation; Business Model and Business Plan’. These series of workshops are held in the 2nd week of October to help the students to generate ideas to solve a problem and details of developing a Business Plan along with Elevator Pitch is outlined. Post the workshops student submit a B Plan in a group of 6.

 

  1. Following the workshops, the Intra Institute Business Plan is organized in the last week / Ist week of November where the 10 best B-Plans are shortlisted and presented in front of an external Jury. The winners of the In- house B-Plan competition are allowed to participate in the ‘Inter College B-Plan Competition’ featuring in the ‘Inter College Management Fest–Genesis’ which is generally conducted during mid November. Besides this they also represent their college in various other competitions being organized pan India.

 

  1. During the Inter College Business Plan competition the center receives around 100 B-Plans from the various Institutes across the country. 10 Best B-Plans are shortlisted to present their plans to an external jury. At the end the winners are awarded cash prizes.

 

  1. Post the Management fest, a half day seminar on ‘Venture capital funding’ is organized, where the first year students. In this event the students get a firsthand information about the different types of funding available for start-ups from the investors themselves. This exercise conducted in the end of November, further gives the students another real time opportunity to make their plans implementable.

 

  1. Besides these activities various special lecture by eminent entrepreneurs, investors are organized regularly to inspire the students to develop an entrepreneurial mindset. Last year there were many such lectures but the icing of the cake was the lecture on ‘New venture Planning’ by Dr. Robert Hisrich from Kent state University.

 

Faculty Development Programs (FDP) & Management Development Program (MDP):

 

  1. Every year the center floats a two day FDP on Entrepreneurship in June /July, where various B- School faculty members register to attend the FDP.

 

  1. The center also conducts open and customized MDPs for the corporate every year. The in house MDP is conducted in July/ August generally. Whereas, many customized MDPs have been conducted for the employees various companies like Power Grid, Gail India.

 

Mentoring & Coaching:

 

Being a certified mentor, Dr. Anita T. Lal has mentored lots of student start-ups over the years at FORE and at other Institutes.  She has been also mentoring many Alumni of FORE. She has been felicitated by TiE Delhi for mentoring the TiE Young Entrepreneurs. At the same time, she has coached many students in preparing their Business Plans and how to present their Elevator Pitch to the Investors.

 

Research Projects:

 

Two In- House research projects have been availed in the last few years to carry research in the areas of ‘Women entrepreneurs in India’ and ‘Start-ups in India’. Various research papers which are the outcome of these projects have been published in various journals.

 

For the last few years the winners of the In- House B- Plan competition have been winning various B- Plan competitions hosted by other colleges & Institutes. The center has also been helping the students in getting live projects, summer internship and also final placement offers from Entrepreneurs and start- up founders. In the near future, the center aspires to start –up an incubation center.
