Programme Introduction:

The process of delicensing, liberalization and globalization, over the last few decades have opened new opportunities and challenges for emerging markets, enabling them to unlock resources and build infrastructure to move forward. This in turn has led to strategic decisions examining the viability of capital investment and financing by public/ private firms as also the government. It has also necessitated the evaluation and monitoring of risks associated with such large capital investment projects. This brings forth the need to with the various stages of project finance from identification of a project, its detailed formulation, and analysis to the rationale for project financing, assessing the risks, designing the financing mix and raising the funds.

Programme objectives:

  • Learn the intricacies of assessment of the components of the cost of project and arriving at the total cost of project.
  • Get insights into how appraisal of proposed means of finance is done by lending institutes
  • Develop skills to understand and analyze in detail the essential features of a project and the implications of capital investment in terms of risk and return.
  • Understand the nuances of infrastructure financing and public-private-partnership model.
  • Understand issues in managing risky projects- how to identify, assess and allocate project risks

Programme Contents:

  • Project selection and preparation, project costing
  • Financial appraisal with techniques of NPV, IRR, MNPV, MIRR
  • Cash flow projections using excel for project viability; key project financing ratios
  • PPP model of infrastructure financing with tendering, Contracting and Concession Agreements
  • Implementation and monitoring of PPP projects
  • Assessing sustainability of the Capital Structure – The waterfall mechanism and Trust & Retention Account (TRA) framework
  • Evaluating Financial Viability and Risk analysis of PPP Program

Lectures, case studies, excel based cash flow forecasting and experience sharing from participants.

Programme Director:

Prof. Vandana Gupta is a Professor of Finance at FORE School of Management, Delhi India. Her experience spans for 28 years which includes Academics and Industry. She has worked with some leading corporates as Bennett Coleman & Company, Infosys, ICRA (India’s leading Credit Rating Agency) and Religare Securities Limited (equity research). Her teaching areas are Financial Reporting and Analysis, Corporate Finance, Credit Risk, Project Appraisal and Financing and Business Valuations. Her PhD has been in credit risk and her research works are broadly focused on financial distress of Indian corporates, bankruptcy prediction. She has to her credit several research papers in national and international journals and has presented her research in national & international conferences.
