Programme Introduction:

Derivatives have been growing rapidly in the last few decades and occupy an increasingly important position in the global financial market. The Derivative market in India, like its counterparts abroad, has significantly gained importance. Since its inception in 2000, its popularity and volume have grown manifold. NSE made its mark in the global ranking with turnover, which surpassed the cash segment. Derivative instruments play a crucial role in transferring a wide range of risks prevalent in the economy from one entity to another. Given the large size of the global derivatives market, a careful study of derivative securities becomes significant to a financial analyst. This program introduces the fundamentals of financial derivatives and managing risk through financial derivatives. It introduces the participants to various derivative products and their crucial role in the financial market. The program will help analysts, dealers, traders, consultants, and other market practitioners understand the derivative products for investments and risk management purposes.

Programme Objective:

  • A clear conceptual understanding of Derivative markets, Products, and Trading Processes, with a special focus on the Indian market;
  • Practical knowledge of the mechanics of various types of derivatives and their trading;
  • An Insight into the Derivative valuation process.

Programme Content:

  • Introduction to Forwards and Futures on Stocks, Commodity, Currencies
  • Introduction to Options on Stocks, Commodities, and Currencies
  • Pricing of Futures and Options contracts
  • Risk Management using Derivatives

Programme Methodology:

A mix of pedagogy would be adopted classroom lectures, problem-solving, and real-live data analysis. Participants will be trained to read the price quotes for options and futures trading. Versatile interest, knowledge of equity trading, and a basic understanding of the commodity market will be warranted as the course progresses.

Prof. Vikas Pandey is working as an assistant professor in finance & accounting at FORE School of Management. He has worked for one and a half years at IIM Jammu as a finance and accounting professor. Earlier, he was associated with the School of Management & Entrepreneurship at Shiv Nadar University. He also has professional experience of more than seven years in accounting and financial reporting of hedge funds and private equity funds.
