Programme Introduction:
Faculty Development Programme (FDP) — “Systematic Literature Review (SLR), Bibliometric Analysis, & Research Paper Drafting” — introduces participants to rigorous, reproducible approaches for reviewing literature, mapping research landscapes using bibliometric tools, and converting review insights into publishable research papers. Through a mix of lectures, hands-on practical sessions, and group work, participants will learn how to plan and run an SLR, perform bibliometric and science-mapping analyses, interpret results, and draft high-quality research manuscripts ready for submission.
Programme Objectives:
Equip participants to design and conduct rigorous Systematic Literature Reviews (SLRs) by formulating clear research questions, selecting appropriate analytical frameworks, and implementing reproducible search and PRISMA-aligned reporting practices.
Enable participants to apply bibliometric and science-mapping techniques (e.g., keyword co-occurrence, co-citation, co-authorship) to map research landscapes, identify thematic clusters and key influencers, and synthesize these insights to pinpoint research gaps.
Develop participants’ ability to translate SLR and bibliometric findings into publishable manuscripts, including structuring papers, writing transparent Methods and Results, etc.
Programme Contents:
Session 1: Basics of Literature Review
Understanding what a literature review is (and what it is not).
Types of literature reviews: domain-based, theory-based, and method-based reviews.
Why conduct a rigorous literature review — identifying the “need” and “purpose.”
How to locate and classify research gaps and summarize prior studies meaningfully.
Stepwise approach to conducting a literature review: defining keywords, Boolean search, database use (Scopus focus), and citation tracking.
Session 2: Introduction to Bibliometric Analysis
Understanding what bibliometric analysis is and why it is considered a quantitative review technique.
Introduction to key indicators: citation analysis, co-citation analysis, co-authorship analysis, co-word analysis, and bibliographic coupling.
Planning a bibliometric study: defining scope, keywords, and data collection strategy.
Hands-on focus on Scopus data extraction anddata cleaning protocolsusing PRISMA.
Session 3: Bibliometric Analysis using VOSviewer
Step-by-step demonstration of VOSviewer for performance analysis and science mapping.
Creating and interpreting co-authorship, keyword co-occurrence, and citation networks.
Using network visualizations (normal, overlay, and density) to interpret clusters and emerging themes.
Translating bibliometric insights into the identification of future research gaps.
Session 4: Academic Writing of Bibliometric Analysis – Editor’s Perspective
Discussion of exemplary bibliometric papers (good vs. weak examples) to highlight best practices.
Editorial evaluation lens: contribution, methodological rigor, and theoretical integration.
Key writing components of a bibliometric paper: structure, discussion of clusters, and future research directions.
Why hybrid papers (Bibliometric + SLR) are more impactful and publishable.
Session 5: Foundation of Systematic Literature Review
Understanding the concept and purpose of Systematic Literature Review (SLR).
How an SLR differs from a vanilla or narrative literature review.
Stages of an SLR process: defining research questions, search strategy, and inclusion/exclusion criteria.
Formulation of Research Questions for conducting SLR.
Session 6: Frameworks (TCCM, ADO, 5W+1H) and Protocols for Conducting SLR
Understanding and applying TCCM (Theory–Context–Characteristics–Method) framework.
Overview of ADO and 5W+1H frameworks and when to use each.
Developing an SLR protocol: defining the scope, keywords, and coding categories.
Illustrating framework application using examples from published SLR studies.
Session 7: Academic Writing of Systematic Literature Review – Editor’s Perspective
Reviewing high-quality SLR and hybrid (BSLR) papers from leading journals.
Editor’s insights on structure, theoretical contribution, and clarity.
How to write sections of an SLR — introduction, synthesis, and discussion.
Editorial red flags and how to avoid them while positioning your SLR effectively.
Session 8: Outcome-Oriented Session – Drafting B-SLR-Based Research Paper
Live conduct of SLR under frameworks like TCCM (Theory, Context, Content, Method).
Integration of tables and analysis into a coherent SLR or BSLR manuscript structure.
Demonstrating how bibliometric and SLR insights can be combined in one paper.
Participants’ queries and discussion on the same.
Programme Pedagogy:
Short lectures (concepts & standards).
Demonstrations and live screen-shared tool walkthroughs.
Hands-on practical exercises with sample datasets.
Small group work (protocol drafting, mini analyses).
Target Organizations:
Open to All Universities/Colleges,/Institutions
Target Participants:
Faculty members, research scholars, Prospective PhD candidates, and research assistants/associates.
